Chris and Chris with the champagne!! Chris and Stewart 2004
Hi, our names are Chris and Stewart and we are very big fans of ‘Chris de Burgh’.He is arguably one of the best ‘singer/songwriters’ in the world, and is popular amongst all ages and cultures. His fan base stretches from Australia to NorthAmerica, from Russia to South Africa, and he is exceptionally popular in Germany. We have been fans of ‘CdeB’ for over 20 years now and own all his albums, singles,Videos, DVD’S and many many press cuttings and concert photos from all over theYears. We have travelled literally thousands of miles over the last 14 years attending many of his concerts. One of these was just 12 miles away from our home, another one just 15 miles away from where we live in the UK; others have been all over the UK, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Holland, and even Canada in November 2005 !!At the last count we had been to over 100 concerts (April 2006) and have alreadybooked 12 more for this year including shows in Germany, Switzerland, Amsterdam,Luxembourg and of course the one and only one show here in the UK.
I (Chris) attended my 100th CdeB concert in Newcastle on October 7th 2004 and was totally stunned when I was presented with a bottle of champagne from Chris, in the middle of the show!!! but it was great from what I can remember !!! J J J

Chris has been delighting his fans for over 34 years now and is one of the worlds most‘enduring’ artists. Although mostly famed for his massive 1986 hit ‘Lady In Red’, he has actually written and recorded over 165 songs at this time, (2006). His ability to write and record songs is incredibly ‘diverse’, and he has styles to suit everyone from love songs and ballads, to pop and soft rock such as ‘High On Emotion’, ‘Nothing Ever Happens Round Here’, ‘Don’t Pay The Ferryman’ and ‘A Woman’s Heart’ to name but a few. Another style for which he is legendary is his ability to write such brilliant story telling songs such as, Spanish Train, Crusader, The Devils Eye and more recently St. Peters Gate. Over the last few years he has also branched out to include working with full orchestra and choir along side his current band.

His album ‘Quiet Revolution’ released in September 1999 saw Chris returning to his musical routes of song writing and he has produced some very good story telling songs again such as ‘St Peter’s Gate’ and ‘Love Of The Heart Divine’. Along with these songs and his rockier numbers mentioned earlier he has balanced this album out well with some beautiful ballads. ‘The Same Sun’ which is a Celtic style prayer for a loved one far away, is possibly in my opinion the most beautiful song that Chris has ever written? and performed.

On Stage, ‘Chris’ literally comes alive, getting right inside each song as he sings it. He is definitely not scared to show his emotions while on stage. I recently recall seeing him sing one of his older songs called ‘The Tower’ and the emotion that he put into it was really awesome. I literally had shivers running down my spine.

We actually went to our first ‘CdeB’ concert way back in September 1992, and from that moment we were totally under the ‘CdeB’ spell. Now as our kids have grow older we are lucky to be able to go and see ‘Chris’ as much as possible.

We have had the privilege of actually meeting ‘Chris’ on quite a few occasions now and he really is one of the nicest people that either of us has ever met. He is always polite, courteous, humorous and always thoughtful. A real pleasure to meet.
In March 2001 Chris wrote and sung his first duet ever, with a singer called ‘Shelly Nelson’, and the song is a very strong ballad called ‘Two Sides To Every Story’.This song also features on a compilation of Chris’s best songs which was released on March 19th 2001 (in the UK). This new compilation album which is entitled ‘Notes From Planet Earth’ also includes a new upbeat version of his 1988 hit ‘Missing You’, which is much more like his live concert version, and also ‘Patricia 2000’ which is much more ‘sassy’ than the original. Also on this album are French versions of,
‘A Woman’s Heart’ and ‘When I Think Of You’.

In the spring of 2004 Chris released his then ‘latest’ album which was called ‘The Road To Freedom. This again was a very different style from the last ones, and was released on Chris’s own personal record label, ‘Ferryman Productions’which is owned and run by Chris himself along with Kenny T from his management company.

The album is a mixture of ballads, story telling songs, and even a follow up to Lady In Red on it !! The album is a far deeper one that his last one, which Chris himself described as a ‘fun album’.it covers such things as a song about Queen Elizabeth 1st, about everything day things like when you eldest child flies the nest for the first time, and even a song for a band member who died from cancer in the mid nineties. There is also a tribute song to ‘Eva Cassidy’ on it, and this particular song is very good. The album was accompanied by an extensive ‘Solo’ European tour in 2004 and again in 2005 along with a short Canadian tour, again solo.
Early 2006 saw Chris fly to New Zealand for his first ever concert there and then onto Australia for another ‘one off’ concert, all solo. Finally he then travelled onto Dubai where he done another ‘one off’ concert.
In mid 2006, Chris was again working on his next project. This is an album called ‘The Storyman’ and will be supported by a 12 date concert tour in Germany mainly, with 1concert in England, Switzerland, Amsterdam and Luxembourg. The album will include several ‘story’ songs for which Chris was ‘legendry’ in his earlier career, and the tour will besupported by the full band again. Having attended so many concerts since 2004, I have really fallen in love with Chris performing ‘solo’ concerts, but I’m sure that once I see him with the full band again, I will fall in love all over again !!! And this did happen again, as the 2006 tour saw Chris and full band in Europe and the UK...albeit only one show in the UK.

The year 2007, saw Chris perform many more 'Storyman' tour concerts around Germany(all outdoor shows) and this time the UK as well. Of course we went to most of the German shows and all 4 of the UK ones, that were in: Scotland, Manchester, Bournemouth and London. Then in December 2007 Chris was one of the main guests at the 'Jasper Carrott Rock With Laughter Christmas Show 2007' held in the NEC Birmingham. This was on for 4 nights and we went to 2 of them and really enjoyed them.

In July 2008 Chris performed a solo show in Bundoran Co. Donegal Ireland. This show was literally in a circus tent, but iy was such a brilliant show, it really was. He sang for nearly 3 hours and was in brilliant form, even telling a few jokes and of course describing what some of his songs are about. In August of 2008 Chris again toured around outdoor venues in Europe, but again mostly in Germany. But the shows were different, as on this tour Chris sang a few songs solo, then some with band and ten after the intermission Chris was joined by his band and a full orchestra, and it was like a blast from the past, as we had seen him sing several of the orchestral songs in the late 1990's during his 'Stately Homes' tours. Unfortunately it rained at nearly all of the shows, so we all got wet many times :-(
All through late 2007 and the first half or 2008 Chris was also recording songs for his new album. This album will be called 'Footsteps' and will feature Chris de Burgh singing cover versions of some of his favourite non CdeB songs, such as 'The Long And Winding Road', 'American Pie', and several more that many fans have heard before at his concerts. It wil also feature a new cover version of 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone' and one new song that will be called 'Footsteps'.
This album will be released at various times around Europe and the UK and the rest of the world. It was actually released in November in Germany, and of course I got our copy right away...well I wasn't going to wait until it is released in March 2009 in the UK !!
This will be backed up by a 7 date UK tour, followed by many dates in Germany, 2 in Austria, 1 in Switzerland and 1 in Poland.
As I now update this page again, we have news that Chris will perform again in Bundoran Co. Donegal Ireland on February 14th 2009. This time, thankfully it is in a hotel not a tent!! Stewart and I already have our hotel and concert tickets all booked up and we are really looking forward to spending the weekend with a friend from Germany and others from the UK.
